How long has Briggins been around?

Briggins was founded in Melbourne in 2006. Since then, we have made and delivered over 50,000 suits, making us one of Melbourne’s most experienced custom suit companies.

Should I make an appointment?

Yes, absolutely! We are a small team and operate by appointment in order to cater to our clients individual needs and provide a high level of service. Consultations are completely obligation-free and you will be looked after by one of our stylists who can answer your questions about our range and provide you with a quote.

Where is Briggins Showroom?

We are located in Ringwood at Level 1, 156 Maroondah Hwy.

It is a 500m walk from Ringwood station and there is some parking available out the front.

We are operating by appointment only during the following hours:

What are your suits made from?

Briggins suits are made from 100% wool fabrics from Australia, New Zealand and Italy. This makes for a suit which is warm in winter, but breathable in summer. Wool is easy to care for and incredibly soft and luxurious.

We have fabrics available from 120-180gsm, which describes the fineness of the yarn and the weight of the woven textile. Lighter fabrics are finer and more luxurious – ideal for the warmer months – but wear out more quickly over time. Heavier fabrics will keep you warm in winter and are longer-lasting, but may not be the best choice for a summer wedding. Our stylists can help you to narrow down your selection based on the season and how much wear your suit will get.

What does ‘custom’ mean?

Custom or made-to-measure suits and shirts are made-to-order from a pattern which is adjusted to your unique body measurements. This means that you can select the fabric, fit, style and even finer details such as satin detailing and stitching. A custom suit is as unique as the name printed on the label.

Each suit is individually made based on your own measurements and choices.

How is my custom suit made?

Following our two-step fitting process at our Ringwood Showroom, Briggins Clothiers makes your one-of-a-kind suit in partnership with a specialist workshop in Shanghai, China. Up to 95% of our garments and accessories are handmade in the same workshop to ensure quality and consistency. Our custom suits and shirts are all finished and altered by our master tailor in her workroom, right here in Ringwood. Custom-ordered bow ties and pocket squares can also be ordered and are made in-house.

This process provides high quality garments, a perfect fit and quick turnaround at excellent value for our clients.

How do you ensure a perfect fit?

Out two-step fitting process relies on the expertise of our master tailor.

First, she will take your body measurements and use these to calculate your sample size.

Next, you will be asked to try on a sample jacket, trouser and shirt. Once you have your sample on, you will be able to work with the tailor to address any concerns and determine how you would like your custom suit to fit. The tailor will pin the garments to your liking and use the marked garment in addition to your body measurements to determine the measurements for your final suit.

For our clients purchasing a ready-made suit, the process is the same except that instead of a sample suit, you will receive the suit (or suits) you have selected from our stock. The suit/s will be pinned and the necessary alterations determined and can be finished for you in a week. All alterations are included in the cost of your ready-made suit.

How long does it take to make a custom suit?

If an order is placed at the initial consultation, your first fitting will be booked for 6 weeks later. For individual clients, any necessary alterations – finalising the taper on the trouser, the hem, minor adjustments to the waist and seat – can be done on-the-spot during your fitting. Typically we can achieve perfect fit in our custom suits in 1-2 fittings.

For wedding parties with group appointments, additional fittings may be required depending on the size of your group and the alterations needed. This, along with the additional time it can take to have everyone in the wedding party brought in for measurement increases the lead time for wedding orders.

Thus the typical turnaround for an individual suit is 6-8 weeks and for weddings, 8-10 weeks.

For weddings, we strongly advise booking your initial consultation no later than 3 months before the wedding date.

How should I care for my suit?

Congratulations on your suit! Here are some tips for keeping your garment in great condition so that it lasts the years it was made to.

We recommend that you have your suit professionally dry-cleaned once a year, professionally pressed once a month, and steamed (in your bathroom) once a week. Store your jacket on its hanger to avoid damage to the internal structure. To avoid unnecessary damage and wear, avoid driving in your suit jacket and do not keep keys, phones or wallets in your suit pant pockets.

What should I do if I damage my garments?

Accidents happen, so you may wish to have repairs made to your custom suit from time-to-time. Our in-house tailor is available to do repairs by consultation. The cost will depend on the work required.

How do I re-order?

Love your suit and want to buy another? We can confidently use the measurements we have on file for 6 months. If it has been more than 6 months since you were measured, we recommend that you be measured again to ensure we can achieve the same standard of fit. We are able to use measurements taken within 12 months on request.
